Public Management and Administration

Public Management and Administration is the study of the practice of public affairs management and national governance. China has a long tradition of studying government management or public administration, dating back at least to the pre-Qin period when the state or government was formed. As a modern science, it was born in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After a century of evolution, Public Management and Administration is now a modern science. It has become an interdisciplinary and comprehensive discipline, and its main subject of study is no longer just the government administration and bureaucracy, but also other government agencies and nonprofit organizations or the third sector, and even the public aspects of the private sector. As the foundation course for the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree, this course provides a comprehensive overview of the public aspects of Public Management and Administration and provides MPA students with a basic understanding of the basic objects, topics, research paths, and disciplinary development of public management, and lays the foundation for subsequent study.

The teaching goals of this course are:

1.Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the discipline of Public Management and Administration and master the major concepts, research methods, disciplinary systems and paradigm shifts in it.

2.Through instruction and discussion, students will learn the basic concepts and values of Public Management and Administration and understand and appreciate the basic modules of it.

3.Through the study of this course, students will enhance their ability to think rationally and consolidate the pursuit of communal values in the process of Public Management and Administration.
